If living in an earthquake prone area, where there has been a previous earthquake, it is a good idea to make an emergency earthquake survival kit, this kit should be at easy access in case it needs to be taken quickly and high enough that young children can't get into it.

If it is possible for an earthquake to damage your furniture and anyone in the way of it precautions should be taken to make sure the objects in your house don't topple over or out. Put locks or latches on cupboard doors so that the possessions in it don't fall out, make sure heavy or fragile objects are on low shelves. cupboards that contain chemicals such as cleaning agents should be stored on low shelves so there is less of a chance that they will spill if they fall. Beds that are under ceiling lights or ceiling fans should be moved away from under it so that if it falls the sleeping person will not get injured. |
